Pin Basting

I at long last did the pin basting for my quilt. I was very nervous about this step. I mean, if I don't get everything plain, my quilt is gonna look wonky. I should have researched a not any more about how to do this the right way. I am not sure if I got the back straight or not. Oh well, it is my first effort, and it will still be functional lol

I had gone to Joanns Saturday to get everything I needed for the quilt. I bought my cotton batting ( which was 50% off, YAY! ) Take the measure of 1 basting pins (thank you Vanessa for recommending the smaller pins : D ) cotton quilting ease and machine quilting needles. I was all set when I started yesterday afternoon. I had an hour and a half to get this done before I had to bequeath and bring Sydney and Isabella to ballet class. Loads of time to finish since I was doing this in the middle of the living allowance and definitely didn't want to leave my quilt there for very extended where my family and animals would just walk on it. I had Oprah on the tv, a glassware of water (this involved a lot of bending and stretching, you get thristy when you industry this hard ; ) LOL) Everything was going right on schedule when about halfway through pinning, I ran out of pins!!!!! I had bought a send off of a hundred, I thought for sure that would be plenty, I was wrong lol This meant that I had to shove off my precious quilt on the floor while I left to bring the girls to extraction. I left with a strict warning that if anyone walked on my quilt, there would be serious consequences. I needed a few things from the grocery set aside, so figured I could stop by Walmart on my way home, get my groceries, my quilting pins and gas ($2.53 a gallon!!!!!) and be home base within an hour....

Another Sit and Sew Monday continued

The gals arrived this morning enthusiastic to sew. We set-up our machines and spread out our supplies and started making........impede keepers!

Block keepers are a great way to store "lay out of the month" projects, applique blocks in progress and even vexed-stitch awaiting finishing/framing.

I thought I would deal with you not only our sit and sew day but how to make a block keeper.

This is what you need to get started:

a mailing tube (about 25" covet and approx. 2" in diameter) available at office provide stores
1 yard of cotton fabric (for main part of plan b mask keeper)
1/4 yard of contrasting fabric for binding
a remains piece of fabric for embellishing (optional)
36" x 42" put together of cotton batting (Dolly used the new bamboo batting and loved it!)
1 yard of grosgrain ribbon
1 button (facultative)
cotton thread
sewing machine

The first step in making the stumbling-block keeper is to cut the fabric 1" wider than your tube (so about 26" extensive for the one shown)....leave the length at 36" dream of. Cut the batting the same size.

Place the batting on the wrong side of the stuff and press the fabric and batting. Press on the fabric side with a hot iron set on cotton. Don't pressure directly on the batting, you may damage the batting.

Pressing will inform appropriate the batting and fabric stick together slightly and make it inclined for quilting. If you feel that the batting and fabric are not stable enough for quilting then use your favorite method for quilt basting.

And I won’t mention that the only purple tights in this territory that match the purple in her skirt are found at Neiman-Marcus. No, I won’t cite that.

Sewing notions and fat quarter shopping spree

I went to Hancock’s to take superiority of their Vogue pattern sale, and came away with so much more than only patterns!  I bought a wonderful bias band maker, pictured below.  I have struggled with making my own influence tape, and knew when I stumbled across this notion that it was just what I needed to reap more professional-looking bias tape.  I bought the 1/2″ facsimile but will be going back for the additional sizes.

I also bought some pattern-mending spool.  I do try to be careful with my patterns, but there have been a couple of occasions when a figure piece has torn.  According to the package, I can even iron over the cassette!  I was happy to have found this.

Last but not least I bought some fat quarters.  I’m not a quilter, but some of the fat direction fabrics are so lovely!  McCall’s literally has a series of patterns designed for projects made using fat quarters.  I recently bought McCall’s 4486 which uses fat quarters for provender runners, placemats and napkins.  There are some wonderful autumn and Christmas fat humanity fabrics that would make beautiful, festive table linens!

I found some wonderful fat quarter fabric that has a shimmery gold paisley designed stamped over a chocolate brown distance.  I bought four packages of that, it is sooo lovely.  I’m conclusion I could make a lovely decorative pillow and a matching itemization cover for a side table.  These little fat quarter packages reinforce so many ideas.  My imagination always runs wild when I find some I genuinely like.

Here is a black and white pack I bought.  I could vigorous some beautiful pillows with this!  I just love felonious and white decor schemes!
