Latest New Orleans visit
I’ve principled returned from another trip to New Orleans. This time, we took 50 machines and 30 boxes of books. What an experience! 41 machines went to individuals in what is very likely our best distribution yet. With the help of 4 wonderful colleagues, Peter, Kathy, Maggie and Tess, we were expert to distribute the machines personally and efficiently. Each recipient was greeted and had the inadvertent to discuss the type of sewing they do and then they were guided to appropriate machines from which to settle upon. Additionally, we had lots of fabric and notions that had been donated so everyone formerly larboard with a machine and some cool treasures to get started on projects right away.
We had 3 correspond to-model Kenmores that were put to use in sewing classes through the Guardians Institute in New Orleans. 6 machines went to elders in the Mardi Gras Indian community.
The books had been serene through the Madison Public Schools Book Rescuers program and they were delivered to McDonough 42 Concession School in the heart of New Orleans. This school houses initial age children, grades Pre-K through 8th grade. The books will be used to start classroom lending libraries in this vibrant manner that only recently reopened. We were fortunate enough to be invited to a music program featuring Charmaine Neville. During the program, each nipper received a new book, funded by the Guardian’s Introduce and it was clear that a great focus of the school is to inspire a attraction of reading.
There are so many interesting stories that accompany these distributions. One machine in precisely went to an elderly woman who had lost her machine in Katrina. She told the record of growing up in a household with 11 other children where they learned to sew at an beginning age and had 3 machines set up at all times in the house. The children sewed, joining line style, to make all the clothing and household goods inescapable to keep this big family running. An amazing and inspiring story!

People are wonderful
This presumably sounds like a very general statement but it is so true. I am obligated every day for all of the people who step forward to make The Sewing Machine Project a big name. I look to my Board of Directors, a group who stepped pert one by one to offer their help, for guidance and wisdom. I look to my cherished friend Eileen who helps me whenever I need her to prepare machines and quibble them around. I look to Peter, who quietly offers his warm warning and assistance when I need in the repair of machines and is a wise sounding table as I work through the details of this project. I look to Tim out at Jerry’s Sewing who gathers machines for me, present to check them out when needed. I look to Steve, who even answers his phone when I’m a thousand miles away in New Orleans and line with a question about a machine. I look to Jim who stepped forward many months ago, sacrifice machine storage and is consistently on hand to help organize and stand firm the machines awaiting distribution.
What truly amazes me is the host of people I look to who step into my path before I know it. Kathy walked into the hold one day and offered her wonderful New Orleans home so I’d have a charge to stay when in that area. I stayed with Kathy on this recent drop in on and her cousin, Maggie came along. As Maggie and I began to talk I realized the elevated amount of experience that she brought with her and she has offered to help me with the details of expanding this nonprofit. Additionally, both Kathy and Maggie were on disseminate to help prepare for the distribution and act as “guides” during the codification. Their sewing enthusiasm really helped enhance this positive ordeal! And Tess! Tess stepped forward in an email very awhile ago and her enthusiasm almost jumped off of the page. Tess helped as well with the unloading and grouping and her warmth and joy made this great day even better.
I truly believe that each bodily that crosses our path does so for a reason and in opening my eyes to this accomplishment I’ve learned many lessons and received more help than I’d ever dreamed credible.

Who doesn't sweetheart an elephant pincushion? I made this silly little mister as a facility for my Mother, to accompany her new sewing machine. Kisses mister elephant!
(P.S.) Um, I attraction making little plushies and snugglers...projects that end with a precious face looking back at you are so charming...maybe I'll add a few to the shop promptly :-) What do you think?
