Looking for sherpa backed minky fabric posted by mommy@last

I have an delightful pattern for a cape for dd that calls for sherpa backed suede. I cut in love with the minky sherpa but it's discontiuned and it's pricey! I can't in conflict with $30/yd even if I could find some. Anyone know where I might find something similar? Pink is my preferred color but I might have to be pliable...
Thanks!

Do you label your fabric content? posted by Aunt Gail

Now that I've in fact made a few pieces of clothing this summer and have started a fairly seemly stash-- I was wondering what everyone does -- with the outfits they sew. Do you peg them Rayon or Wool or bamboo - whatever... so you will know what the fabric indeed is? Like Dry Clean - or - hand wash- or whatever?

I have kinda looked for fabric labels - and never noticed any on the a number of internet sites.

Or am I the only one who can't remember all the fabrics? :wow: your kinds thoughts or suggestioooons would be grteatly appreciated. - signed Gail in Oregon

Maroon - Brought to You by Fabric.com

Today's color is Cast away. This outfit has been brought to you courtesy of Fabric.com, McCalls, Butterick and New Look. Specifically, Butterick 5216, McCalls 5271 and New Look 6816.
This is, yet again, another matte jersey set-up (thank you Fabric.com!!). Matching tank and pants. (Literally, every pair of pants I made last week and am/did finish this week having equivalent tanks simply because there was enough fabric left over).
And because I love to layer, a grow together matte jersey top (Butterick 5216, View D).
This look-alike shows the colors much better.
And here's the obligatory picture of me in said group after a long day at work. What I can't figure out is why I look so short in the photo (obtuse, self timing camera sitting on a stool perched atop the patio oversee cushion) -- I'm really 5'6". Not a giant by any standards, but I'd at least like to look my crest...

A Sewing We Will Go

I recollect I’m not the only one out there who was/is doing this, frantically planning and cutting out fabric to sew up a handmade Halloween togs. Why do we do this to ourselves? I think it has a little do to with stories like this one.

A long outdated ago, in a province not too far away from where I’m sitting and typing, there was a little gal living in outport Newfoundland who wanted to be a ballet dancer (well, absolutely, if you’d asked me at the time I may have meant ballet dancer but I said belly dancer. My baby couldn’t figure out for the life of her where I’d gotten the idea to become a belly dancer. Don’t get me unsuitable, none of us have any negative associations with belly dancing. It is just that in the initial 1970’s in outport Newfoundland, the thought of a four year old faulty to become a belly dancer would have created something of a stir. Mudder at the end of the day figured out that I meant ballet dancer, after I gave her a clarification of my prowess).
The story starts with a young girl with a hot desire to become a ballet dancer. And what is a loving mother to do but try and take to one's heels that dream a reality? She did...

Who Else Loves Thrift Shop Fabric? posted by 3KillerBs

I moral found yet another batch of beautiful fabric in my favorite thrift shop. Anyone else young lady sorting through the piles of weird, polyester double-knits; uncanny, faded cottons; and miscellaneous scraps of moth-eaten wool to disinter buried treasures?

My current favorite place is a "junk purchase" sort of place. They buy the entire contents of houses, garages, etc. and you absolutely NEVER recollect what you're going to find.

Yesterday was fun because as I was finding about 15-20 yards of good-looking cotton shirtings I was wearing this skirt which I'd made from fabric I'd found there previously. The guy recognized the exemplar when I mentioned it too.

I started shopping for fabric at yard sales and skimping shops because our budget is tiny and we've often lived in places where full fabric was hard to come by but I doubt I'll ever get wealthy enough to stop digging in those piles. Its reasonable too much fun. :D

As You Sew, So Shall You Rip

I'm in the haven stretch on Abby's quilt. The mind-bogglingly colourless yet terrifying free-motion machine quilting is finished, and all I have to do is sew the four edging and four corner pieces to the main quilt body. It's not unreservedly as easy as it sounds, as I'm quilting-as-I-go, which means that there's two seams to be sewn for each production to be attached.

Yesterday I carefully pinned a long side borderline piece to the main body. It's a large quilt and unsympathetic to handle, but I eventually got it all pinned down smoothly. I sat back for a minute for a dexterous quality check before I began sewing, and was glad I did- somehow I had pinned the crumble on upside-down. Crud. What a lot of work gone to waste. I unpinned it and liberal it alone in disgust overnight.

Today I came back in to the sewing room, animated to re-do what I had to undo last night. Carefully making sure the pieces weren't upside down, I re-pinned the binding to the body and did another quality check. Yup. Looked good. I sewed the regular seam, fighting against the bulk of the quilt and feeding it through the gang. A quick iron, and then another round of fighting, this time to sew the decorative zig-zag stitch that holds the "grout" in point. Full of pride, I ironed the top out and then flipped it around to admire the other side.

And realized I a moment ago sewed that damned border on backwards.
