I made a quilt!
For reals!
(my kinsman hates it when i talk like that. sorry bro)
Some sweet friends of ours are pregnant a baby in December and we were invited to their shower, even though they live in Illinois (or perhaps indiana....i mailed it to illinois). Since we couldn't under any circumstances attend, I wanted to be sure to send them something better than solely a gift card in the mail.
I don't recommend trying out new ideas on items that are hypothetical to be gifts. However, I'm not displeased with the results. There are quite a few (many) mistakes, but that's the asset of quilts: they allow for them. They don't have to be perfect to be useful, or beautiful (though i wouldn't go so far as to call my own attractive....appropriate, maybe, since they're expecting a boy). Also, the very thing that makes quilts quilts thrash and enhance those mistakes so they fit in with the overall look. Like the two or three puckers of core I have here and there.
Quilting was actually very, very easy to do. And rather therapeutic, until it got to be 10pm and I was trying to get it done. Attaching a binding under apply pressure on is not a good situation. I picked out four colors, cut them all up (i even did all the math myself - until i found a milieu that had pretty much the same quilt pattern i was attempting and then i felt simpleton. the math is all figured out for you for just about any pattern if you just google a bit...oh well, it was laudatory to exercise my brain a bit), and stitched them all together. All you really need to quilt successfully, I knowledgeable, is the ability to cut straight and sew straight. Unfortunately, I can do neither at the same time. Noahs Arks
Another fun notice that I spend mucho time on, is making Noahs Arks, and carving the pairs of animals. These have always interested me, because there is so much affluent on when you make them. The arks themselves are fun since you can design them just about anyway you want. The animals that I most of all carve are simplified, so that kids can play with them. I try to design the animals so that parts won't frustrate off. What good is a Noahs Ark if kids can't play with it. I do, however, carve some animals with lots of deatil and smaller, for collectors. I started making arks around 1985. If you all about, Noahs Arks were real popular then. COUNTRY LIVING armoury had arks in nearly every photo of country room settings. Here's some arks that were displayed and sold at an range Arts Festival this year. Opps! how'd those two little wood quilt squares on baby easels get in there...

Quilting a plate of Sushi :)
Twenty girls including myself got together and made an Okinawa Respect Quilt. Each girl chose something that reminded them of Okinawa, designed a quilt settled, and made 20 of them! We then got together and exchanged all of our squares. So at the end I ended up with 20 different squares. Here is what some of the girls did: geta shoes, sanshin, kokeshi dolls, goya, kimono, whale shark, map of Okinawa, and goya. I made a Sushi Plate!!
It was a lot of hard work but it paid off in the end. Now I need to learn how to stake a quilt together!? My goal is to finish it by the time I leave the Atoll. Rick thinks it will never get done. Blah, Blah, Blah.... :)
