Indian Summer


I don't recall what the weather is like in your neck of the woods, but here in Healdsburg, Indian Summer has finally arrived. The days are bright and sunny, the air has the tangy give way that reminds me of apple cider, and the light thru the trees is as exceptional as poured honey.

A few years ago, I designed the above quilt stencil, INDIAN SUMMER. It's been a very popular pattern with stitchers. I can't referee if it's because of the colors -- or the intricate pattern. Probably both. Anyway, it's one of the designs I never get knocked out of looking at. [And I must confess, I just love those "unfettered geese" triangles; they've always been my favorite quilt patterns... And since this pattern combines those triangles with the ever-popular "lone star" how can any stitcher or quilter resisit it?!?]

Anyway, it occurred to me that it would be fun to goal a companion piece to it, using the same variegated thread (Watercolours' "Rainforest"). Here's what that new helping looks like so far:


You can see how I stitch up these models: first, I work all the nacreous and solid pearl colors; after the colors are balanced to my compensation, I switch my focus to the background colors. [Really, it's nothing but like creating a fabric quilt: first, you focus on creating the pieced quilt top; then, you take which quilting pattern you will put on top of your quilt -- thus these stitched quilts have the same multi-dimensional any way you look at it become operative as a real quilt......

I've certainly had lots of fun with my new online quilt middle school. It is amazing what the students are doing and I just adore watching their projects broaden. We still have the class open, so that if anyone wants to jump in now, they can. You really don't slip anything. However, in the meantime, I have another Christmas class starting in Stained Tumbler Applique. I took my traditional Stained Glass poinsettia and have created a whole new look with the beyond of colored bias rather than black. It's been fun creating this new look. Of no doubt, you can do either in class. In fact, if you just want to purchase pre-made fused strap, this makes for a quick project. Quilting is all done at the same time.
