Pin Basting

I at length did the pin basting for my quilt. I was very nervous about this step. I mean, if I don't get everything agreed heterosexual, my quilt is gonna look wonky. I should have researched a youthful more about how to do this the right way. I am not sure if I got the back straight or not. Oh well, it is my first effort, and it will still be functional lol

I had gone to Joanns Saturday to get everything I needed for the quilt. I bought my cotton batting ( which was 50% off, YAY! ) Estimate 1 basting pins (thank you Vanessa for recommending the smaller pins : D ) cotton quilting cord and machine quilting needles. I was all set when I started yesterday afternoon. I had an hour and a half to get this done before I had to take off and bring Sydney and Isabella to ballet class. Plentifulness of time to finish since I was doing this in the middle of the living space and definitely didn't want to leave my quilt there for very great where my family and animals would just walk on it. I had Oprah on the tv, a mirror of water (this involved a lot of bending and stretching, you get thristy when you employment this hard ; ) LOL) Everything was going right on schedule when about halfway through pinning, I ran out of pins!!!!! I had bought a rucksack of a hundred, I thought for sure that would be plenty, I was wrong lol This meant that I had to entrust my precious quilt on the floor while I left to bring the girls to realm. I left with a strict warning that if anyone walked on my quilt, there would be serious consequences. I needed a few things from the grocery put by, so figured I could stop by Walmart on my way home, get my groceries, my quilting pins and gas ($2.53 a gallon!!!!!) and be haunt within an hour....

Fat Cats and Quarters

Fat Cats and Quarters

This week, I’m evaluation a lot about fat. I know this is not a nutrition blog, but that’s not the kind of fat I was thinking of. I began my musings while listening to the scandal. It’s kind of hard to escape from, here recently. There has been much discussion about those “fat cats on Go under Street” who got us into the current big mess, and who should certainly walk off their comeuppance! We could muse on this subject all day, but I will leave that to other bloggers of a more feisty simplicity.
Hearing “fat” juxtaposed with money led me to my next fat anticipation – fat quarters! Are these bloated coins that are desperately worrying to keep up with the price of gas? Unfortunately, no. But don’t despair! Fat quarters are indeed anxious to escape out a financially thoughtful quilter. Quilting fabric, as most fabric in the US, is sold by the yard. A yard is 36 inches great, so a quarter of a yard is 9 inches long. Most quilting fabrics are 44 or 45 inches encyclopaedic. Therefore, a quarter yard cut will result in a piece of fabric measuring 9 X 44 inches.
Now granted, quilters often cut their core into inconceivably small pieces in order to sew them back together (we’ll discuss the rationality of this get ready another day…), but sometimes a 9 inch width may put you in a bind. (Not to be confused with binding, which we also converse about another day…). However, you may be loath to purchase a half-yard, and end up with much leftover framework, which is not a fiscally responsible thing to do at all! Never fear – fat quarters to the deliver!!
A fat quarter is a half yard, or 18 inch cut, which has been cut not including at the fold, resulting in two 18 X 22 inch pieces. When...

Quilt Market... catch up

Back where one lives stress and getting back into the swing of things. My son is recovering from his cold well but my daughter was having asthma issues while I was gone so it is correct to be back home to help my husband take care of her. She is doing a slight better, but still keeping a very close watch on her. We had really crave days and nights at Quilt Market so I appologize for not posting every evening. Some nights I just had to crash.
Saturday was the first day of Quilt Trade in and what a day! I was there demoing our Moda Fabricmatcher website and how the Store Owners could use Fabricmatcher in their against. What a great response we had! Some of the shops were already using it and liked playing around with the Relieved of online tool to be able to create samples without even piercing a single piece of fabric first. The shops that had not seen it yet, seemed to be discomposed about playing around with it when they returned back home. So... overall it indeed seemed to go pretty well. Saturday night was our Moda Customer Fete and we had a ton of fun! There was lots of dancing and hula hooping... base I didn't get pictures of the hula hooping (it was a bit difficult stressful to hula hoop and take pictures at the same time).
Dinner Antiquated...Lots of Dancing...

I NEED A QUILT!!!!!

Well..another day of joyless news. I am not usually inclined to have my mental state impacted by the cattle market or the news in general-but days and days have charmed their toll..

So what should/could I do now to distract me from this doom and gloom snowstorm? I upstanding want to sew. I want to make a quilt and wrap up in it and overlook all of this! And I think I will. The holidays are coming and we are all going to need a spoonful comfort after the last few months and the ones yet to come. I want my household to be able to grab their lap quilts, snuggle up, and wait for the sirocco to pass.

Our little shop has recently done everything we can to help in these stout times-so that we can keep sewing comfort for those we love and perhaps for those far less fortunate than some of us. Most fabrics in our against are now only $7.50/yard! With most brick and mortar shops and even most online shops pricing foundation at $9.00-$10.00/yd-we can save you some real money at Seaside!

So go get yourself a cup of tea (spiked or not..lol), get one's hands a notepad and browse through the shop, with the Ocean Sounds on (it'll facilitate!) and make a plan to sew until you can't remember what made you retreat to your sewing identify! I'm gonna!

Houston Quilt Market 2008

Well, we made it back from Houston last night-time. We had a good time- I gave a 30 minute communication during a program they call "Schoolhouse". During schoolhouse they have about 20 rooms with rotating speakers, from 10am to 6pm there are 15 sessions- some 30 min. some 15 min.-with new presentations in each cell for each session (occasionally a speaker will get 2 sessions, but not often) so basically you're in striving with the speakers in the other rooms during your session to try and have as many listeners as possible (the more that harken to the more that will go back and teach your stuff in their hometown!) Sometimes you are also competing against your time pigeon-hole- I was in session 14 almost the end of the program when a lot of people are tired and leaving ancient, and the lunch time sessions are even rougher because there is no break when everyone stops, you straight have to miss a session if you want to eat lunch. I was quite turned on that around 60 people showed up to hear about our book, last year when I did this we had about 40 people (and I even had a less ill time slot then) so it's nice to know there's still a lot of interest.
I also taught a take & enlighten class. The take & teach program is a 1.5 hour savoir faire that is meant to offer people a hands on experience of new techniques/books/tools so they can go back to their provincial stores and teach it themselves and hopefully bring a sample dwelling with them to help them remember the process or even to use as their sample for the class. An hour and a half is not a lot of at all times to make anything so you almost always have to miniaturize your project, and at quilt market almost everyone has traveled altogether a ways to attend and there is no way to provide a supply list to them in contribute to so as a teacher you have to provide everything: You have to arrange things in advance with a sewing ring company if your students need machines in class, you have to make all fabric, thread and batting, I don't even like to assume that...
