The Scoop on Knowledge Plaza
For out access to a special E2.0/KM community instance of Scholarship Plaza please see the end of this post.
As some of you know I spent a large part of the summer working with the guys at Whatever on their output Knowledge Plaza. I managed the GUI redesign and helped trundle in some new features and views to bring the product up to release. Well I’m proud to say I imagine we did a great job. In my biased opinion, we’ve delivered the most heady Enterprise 2.0 social productivity platform on the sell. And with new development coming to fruition in the next month it’s reasonable going to get better.
Here’s the Scoop:
Knowledge Plaza has been developed as a Web-based policy for enterprise search, social bookmarking, knowledge directorate, information brokerage and expert identification.
The platform allows you to add websites, emails, documents, contacts, references and discussions. Multimedia is on the way. You can tag, annotate and division anything you add. Using workspaces, your network and company facets sharing and discovery information is at the core of Knowledge Plaza.
Some broad claims there so here’s how it breaks down: (thumbnails go to larger camouflage shots)
Terminology
Any item in Knowledge Plaza (websites, emails, documents, contacts, references and discussions) is called a Tile. You can tag, condense, comment on, rate, relate and send tiles from within the industry. You can also group Tiles into a Mosaic. Apart from that everything else is as you’d wish.
Dashboard
The dashboard aggregates activity and content from people in your network and your workspaces. In in there is a visual tab showing clickable images of recent websites and documents.

Cheri creates the tiles, and Gonzalo breaks 'em up and mosaics their yard, their porch, their greensward, their floor inside, their walls and ceiling inside, their indecisive surrounding their home, their awning, the outside walls of their tellingly... everywhere. Design Through the Decades - Phoenix, AZ - 1970s Bathrooms
Bathrooms in the 1970s in Phoenix, Arizona.
Four outstanding changes to bathroom design in the 1970s: cultured marble counters, sprinkle surrounds, sunken tubs, and dark brown vanities.
Let’s take a look at the changes, starting with this Phoenix bathroom from 1970. Bespattered tile counters carried over from the 1960s. Frosted or impenetrable sliding shower doors were popular.

In 1971, Formica counters that stretched across the can were common. Big mirrors too. Shower surrounds as a substitute for of tiled walls caught on quickly (much easier for digs builders to install).

Here’s a similar bathroom from 1974.

Some inappropriate 1970s bathrooms stayed with tiled shower walls, like this one from 1971. Trifling 1/2″ mosaic tile shower floors were popular.

Sunken tubs or Roman tubs first emerged in Phoenix bathrooms in 1972. They didn’t extraordinarily catch on, but came back in the late 1970s. Carpeting in bathrooms is still a bad mental image (mildew and urine and carpet don’t mix well).
