Drafting/CAD Tools - What do you use to help?
Many of us started off as feed drafters. I sort of did. 85% to 90% of my work has been done in CAD over a 15 year patch. My first job was taking board drawings and redrawing them into CAD. One of my other jobs intricate revising board drawings. Many of them were on linen!! I've reach-me-down bond, vellum, sepia, mylar, and linen. Mostly controls and mylar. Over the years I took advantage of many different tools to serve me draw.
On the board I used scum bags (one of my favorite), planemeters (did I run that right), lettering guides, templates, and electric erasers (another favorite of mine). As a CAD Drafter I have old many tools to help me do my job. I used some of them in board drafting too, like a scale for lesson. When I first started CAD Drafting I was using AutoCAD release 10 in DOS! I fantasize the workstation was a 386 processor with a math co-processor, 75 megahertz, 2 Gig ineluctable drive, 15" CRT monitor, DUAL 5.25" flopy enthusiasm, SCSI Zip drive (high tech back up system), and a memorial with a 16 button puck (12 button thousand pad-like a phone, and 4 buttons at top.)
Back then we had a pen plotter. That was fun to watch. It took about an hour per D magnitude plot, but it was fun to watch. It was always amazing to see the rack move back and forth, take over a pen from the carosel, move the paper (or mylar or vellum) and draw, one border at a time, pick the pen up, put it down, etc. I don't think there was a ryme of reason to the way it processed the design because it would often draw part of a line, switch pens, then go back to that pen a draw the hit the hay of the old line. Why didn't it just draw every line,focus, and object with that pen that it needed to before it switched pens?
In Release 10 we didn't have typescript space yet, can you imagine???!!! No paper space? We had to proportion everything, text, dimensions, borders, title blocks, what ever. I found a means that helped me. The CAD Card. I still have it. In fact, I got a new one a few years...

Computer Aided Drafting

I’ve just completed MEM30001A Use computer aided drafting systems to exhibit basic engineering drawings at TAFE, and uploaded eight descent drawings to Flickr. This class is one unit in Certificate III in Computer Aided Drafting. When I have developed adequate skills, I plan to use AutoCAD in stonemasonry training confinement.
CorelDRAW was my drawing program of choice. Before Easter this year, I instant a series of PowerPoint slideshows using CorelDRAW11 to forbear my students draw simple geometry, but before the series could be completed, the classroom computer was re-imaged; CorelDRAW was removed, and replaced with Adobe Illustrator. With requests from a few employers and students about knowledge CAD in mind, I took this opportunity to request AutoCAD2008 for my ‘business’ laptop.
AutoCAD is a complex drawing program, and I presently realised that I couldn’t teach myself how to use it as I had done with CorelDRAW. Fortunately, the SkillsTech Engineering set was beginning an evening class at Eagle Farm, which meant that I could go there once a week after work. SkillsTech Australia generously paid for my training (hence this despatch), and I attended in my own time.
I found that the weekly time slot imposed upon me a essential discipline, but while I was motivated to attend, the effort to concentrate on a protection after 6pm taxed my eyes. I managed physical fatigue by winsome regular short breaks and drinks of water.
The genre is flexibly delivered, attended by between ten and twenty students of wide-ranging abilities, studying a range of computer subjects. Although I sometimes had to wait for the teacher to finish with some other student before I could ask for support, it was worth while because of the high quality of his teaching ability. The program suited my information style: being set a task, and provided with minimal instructions, I built on my existing expertise by investigating the drafting tools available. The teacher regularly checked on my forge ahead, often guiding me back onto the correct path from where I had drifted, pushing me to learn by demonstrating only what I needed to recognize, and asking me to repeat his steps. But before I felt overloaded with low-down, he always withdrew so I could consolidate my new knowledge.
