New Portfolio Book

I've been wanting to print a small portfolio for a while now, largely to give to potential collectors or those who buy my work. I did some research, decided that Blurb seemed like the easiest way to put together a uninspired book, and went ahead and put together a book of what I think are the strongest paintings I've done this year. I wanted to keep it wee, since I plan to include it when I ship out paintings, and Blurb's 7x7" set-up is just perfect. I got my first printed copy today, and I propose b assess it turned out pretty well - it looks professional, and the photos privy are fairly accurate.
If any of you are looking to self-publish anything, and demand a quick and easy way to do it, I'd highly recommend Blurb. The software is untroubled to use, and the product is professional

Blank canvas! Look at this!
I've been working on a few of the ornaments from Emie Bishop's Christmas in My Quintessence. I just finished the buttonhole edge on another ornament and took a new look at the air. What a great frame. I could fill this with all sorts of different designs. Motifs from countless discrete samplers would fit beautifully in this little heart. More hardanger fills. Anything.
I over I'll start with borders on more pieces. There are probably tons of tenable combinations out there that I never even considered.

New Favourite Thing: Blank Canvas
I am a enormous fan of gadgets. Kitchen gadgets (lemon tap, anyone?), techie gadgets, laptops…I am far more often seized by the crave for a widget than for a pair of shoes or a handbag.
But my latest is more low-tech. It’s a winsome whiteboard…
I must point out this is NOT me. But she looks very excited by her whiteboard, and I certain how she feels.
I don’t know why it’s taken me so long. In my last ‘satisfactory job’ (if you can call making up ideas for TV shows that will probably never be made a ‘unique job’), I used a whiteboard on a daily basis. The one at the BBC was swankier – the take the measure of of a single bed, with a conveyor belt type arrangement that gave you two full surfaces and a text-out of your work at the touch of a button. That used to induce ‘wows’ from hardened TV producers every duration (I know the average school has interactive whiteboards but the BBC had a reassuringly old-fashioned approximate to these things).
Mine is simpler. I bought it from Ryman’s (despite the the poop indeed that the Ryman’s I go to is so badly organised I always end up missing my bus because of the queue) and it’s 39 x 56 cm and it came with a ‘redeem accessories pack’ consisting of a pen and a teeny whiteboard cleaner and some rawlplugs.
Remarkable thing…a blank screen on a computer is panic-inducing. Yet my lovely untarnished £14.99 blank canvas, untouched by previous dry-wipe markers, represents implied.
I’m at the plotting stage of my eighth novel and I always find with plotting that it works overcome when I write rather than type, so I can draw arrows and squiggles and so on. Not positive why: perhaps it feels more playful and malleable and creative. But A4 is too small a canvas, while A3 is too cumbersome. And I hate crossings out, I like my plans to look melodious. So a whiteboard is perfect…I can clean bits off and draw arrows and portion the page and it doesn’t tear or crumple. I know this is doubtlessly Too Much Information about how sad I am, but hey, it's good to unburden myself now and then.

Cut and Paste
I did this in Visual Arts a few months ago, using cut-outs and fix. Then, using photographic techniques that only the oldies at my local Rabbit Photo use, we developed it using chemicals I in all likelihood shouldn’t have swallowed. All that aside, enjoy the photo.
